Volunteer Orientations We are currently revising our orientation process. If you fill out a Volunteer Application, we will contact you as soon as we have everything in place. Thanks for your patience, and we look forward to introducing you to our lovely animals here at the Western PA Humane Society! Please fill out a volunteer application and then Call or email Chris Whyle, Director of Volunteer and Foster Programs, to reserve your space in one of our New Volunteer Orientation classes. You will receive a confirmation of your reservation or, if your requested orientation is fully booked, you may reserve space in another. Please do not attend an orientation without confirmation. The Western Pennsylvania Humane Society has a multitude of volunteer opportunities to fit the lifestyles, skills and desires of compassionate people like you. One (or more!) of these opportunities will surely satisfy your need to make a difference in our community, and all directly benefit the animals in our care.
You will learn new skills, make new friends (two- and four-legged!) and perhaps even update your resume to include your volunteer experience. Our minimum age to volunteer is 16, but we encourage families with children 12 years of age and older to volunteer together. We also have opportunities for groups, and can customize volunteer projects especially for your time schedule and preferences. Check out the Opportunities page on our Volunteer Menu to see current volunteer positions needed and ongoing opportunities at the shelter. To get started . . . Submit your volunteer application online or at the shelter, and review the scheduled New Volunteer Orientation dates. Call 412 321-4625 x 221 or email chris.whyle@wpahumane.org to request an orientation date that best suits your schedule. Make sure to mention the Orientation (dog, cat, or bunny) you wish to attend. You will receive a confirmation if the orientation date you’ve chosen is still open. If not, we will email you a list of future orientations with available spaces.
