Vaccination Requirements: The following vaccination schedule is recommended for every dog, if you have any questions please contact your Veterinary Office:
DHLPP - Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parvovirus, and Parainfluenza
6-9 weeks old-DHPP; then booster next vaccine in 3-4 weeks
10-13 weeks old-DHLPP; the booster in 3-4 weeks
14-16 weeks old-DHLPP After this booster DHLPP yearly

RABIES – This is a lethal virus of the neurological system. Pennsylvania law requires that ALL dogs 12 weeks of age
and older be vaccinated against rabies. Boosters are needed in one year, then every 3 years. You can be fined $300 per day
if you do not have proof of rabies vaccination. Because of the health risk to our staff, the Western PA Humane Society requires that all patients coming to this clinic be up-to-date on their Rabies vaccine.

BORDATELLA – This is an intranasal vaccine given to any puppy 3 weeks of age or older. This should be boostered annually.
This helps to prevent “kennel cough” and is required by most kennels and some groomers. Bordatella is a bacterium that
can effect a dog’s respiratory tract, especially the trachea, causing a highly contagious cough. This is not a life-threatening
disease but can make a dog very uncomfortable and, rarely, cause severe bronchitis. It is recommended if your dog will be
spending time around other dogs, often, is groomed or kenneled routinely or if they are participating in dog shows.

Basic Education

Puppy Class – The focus is on getting your puppy off on the right paw. Have FUN while socializing with other pups and people.
Puppies learn to play well with each other, to accept handling of their bodies, ears, faces and feet. Your puppy will also learn
to walk on a loose leash, sit, and lie down on cue. Instructors will explain how to deal with common puppy behaviors.
9 weeks to 15 weeks old on the first day of class

Pittsburgh . These visits allow handlers of dogs who have gotten their TDI to gain experience with TDI visits. The first two
weeks of class are held at WPHS, the first is an orientation with NO DOGS. The remaining weeks are scheduled in
community sites. The class is limited to 8 dogs, and participation in the community visits is at the discretion of the
instructor.

Teen Intervention – Has your puppy reached those teen months where they act like they've never heard the
word "sit" or "down" or "come"? Or did you adopt a slightly older puppy in an effort to avoid the 'puppy stage' and
been thrown for a loop by that 'teen' attitude? Have they gone from following your every movement, to just walking
away or teaching you to chase them? This course is geared towards teaching and re-teaching young dogs.  We
start out teaching your dog to 'Heel" (walk beside you – and at your pace), Sit/Stays, Down/Stays, and good
Recall (come when called).  Each week we build on what we've learned and add something new.

#10-206 Saturdays 11 AM beginning 2/06/10                            Instructor: Bob Zehmisch

#10-207 Saturdays 11 AM beginning 3/13/10                            Instructor: Amy Bialek     CLOSED

heeling is a goal and multiple heeling exercises to help promote this will be taught. Work on sit-stay and down-stay
continues, increasing time, distance and distractions. Recalls (coming when called) is also on the agenda, increasing
distances and distractions the dog had to work through. Adult Basic II will have your dog well on his or her way to
being an exemplary citizen! Prerequisite: Adult Basic I.

This six-week session will teach your dog how to pay attention to you, relax and respond to everyday situations without
embarassing you. Take-Five Fido will show you how to help your dog become the great dog you always knew he (or she)
could be even when your mother-in-law comes to visit! Pre-requisite: Basic Level class (Teen Intervention, Small Dog,
or Adult Basic I)
